Background
Penrith Building Society needed a modern, user-centric website that better reflected their brand and catered to their customers’ needs. Their previous website, with outdated content and structure, was no longer fit for purpose. It lacked accessibility, wasn’t mobile-friendly, and required a full day to make essential updates, particularly for changes in product rates.
Challenges
The primary challenge was to streamline content updates, especially for product rate changes, which previously took up to an entire day. The new website needed to be mobile-friendly, accessible, and better aligned with Penrith’s brand and operational needs.
Solution
We began with a series of discovery and user-experience (UX) workshops to gather insights, uncover user personas, and ensure the new website’s structure matched customer needs. Collaborating closely with the Penrith team, we designed a mobile-first, accessible website with a custom backend system that dramatically reduced update times.

Process
-
UX Workshops: Our sessions revealed key insights about Penrith’s customers, which informed a design that aligns with user expectations. The team embraced our UX recommendations, resulting in a user-focused approach to the project.
-
UI Design & Development: We created a modern interface, prioritising accessibility and usability. The new design captures Penrith’s brand identity and makes navigation intuitive across all devices.
-
Custom Backend System: To tackle the time-consuming rate change updates, we implemented a streamlined backend system. This reduced the time required to update product rates from a full day to under an hour, significantly boosting efficiency.
Results
The new website not only enhances user experience with a mobile-friendly, accessible design but also delivers substantial operational benefits. The custom backend system has transformed content management, allowing the team to make product rate updates in under an hour, freeing up time to focus on customer service. The website’s look and feel reflects the friendly, family-oriented tone of voice that Penrith Building Society has prided itself on since 1877.
